In his songs, we can feel his power and his passion for music and life.

Today, I’m going to share a list of top 10 Elton John songs on YouTube.

Let’s get started!

1. Elton John – Candle in the Wind 1997

“And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in”

Candle in the Wind 1997was released as a tribute single to Diana who is known as the Princess of Wales. The great hit achieved enormous success. It overwhelmed charts in several countries and was certified Diamond by RIAA. Besides, Elton John won the title Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the Grammy Award.

This tribute recalls the memory of Diana. When I listening to the song, I can feel John’s emotion for Diana as a very close friend. And John never performs it in public besides at the funeral. Thus, this song is special.

2. Elton John – Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me

“Don’t let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it’s always someone else I see
I’d just allow a fragment of your life to wander free
But losing everything is like the sun going down on me”

Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me was chosen as the first single from John’s studio album Caribou (1974). The song peaked at No.2 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was certified Gold by the RIAA and got nomination of Grammy Awards. Besides, the live version years later with George Michael just topped the Billboard Hot 100.

The song mainly talks about a love story which is really complicated. Just imagine the situation where you were stuck in the middle of nowhere, you can’t make progress while you refuse to go back. What a love dilemma here.

3. Elton John – That’s What Friends Are For

“Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
That’s what friends are for
For good times and bad times”

The song featured by several singers and it was released as a charity single. It hit Billboard Hot 100 at No.1 for 4 weeks and was certified Gold by the RIAA. Apart from that, it won the Grammy Awards for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

I like the way where the prelude goes. It just grabs my ears. John and several singers reached out to raise money for charity by singing the song. And that definitely add the extra points for this music.

4. Elton John – Can You Feel the Love Tonight

“Can you feel the love tonight
The peace the evening brings
The world for once in perfect harmony
With all its living things

Can You Feel the Love Tonight was the soundtrack of Disney’s film The Lion King. Elton John got his karaoke on at the end of the film. The song placed at No.4 on the Billboard Hot 100. It won John a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.

The lyrics of the song are moving. Somehow it causes me to choke up a little bit. The piano melody mixed with John’s voice making the song even more touching. And it just fits the storyline of the film. Really a good stuff, isn’t it?

5. Elton John – Daniel

“Oh oh, Daniel my brother you are older than me
Do you still feel the pain of the scars that won’t heal
Your eyes have died, but you see more than I
Daniel you’re a star in the face of the sky”

Daniel was released as the lead single from John’s sixth studio album Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player (1973). This ballad peaked at No.2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified Gold by RIAA. It also received the nomination of Grammy Awards.

The song is simply about a returning soldier who left to Spain finding a new life. It’s written through the eyes of Daniel’s brother. The war theme song is always related to emotional battle scar, so does this one. Last, may the world peace forever.

6. Elton John – Rocket Man

“And I think it’s gonna be a long long time
‘Till touch down brings me round again to find
I’m not the man they think I am at home
Oh no no no I’m a rocket man”

This dreamy ballad has its own characteristics. When I heard it for the first time, I think this is going to be my new fancy song. Though I’m not sure what the lyrics is talking about, it doesn’t matter, and it just sounds awesome.

7. Elton John – Your Song

“It’s a little bit funny, this feeling inside
I’m not one of those who can easily hide, I
Don’t have much money but boy, if I did
I’d buy a big house where we both could live”

Your Song was released as the lead single from John’s second studio album Elton John (1970). It reached No.8 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was certified Platinum by RIAA. And the song marches into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

This simple yet romantic song sounds just like a conversation. It’s beautiful and I’m stuck in John’s voice, the lyrics and the story. Anyway, if i have to give it a score, that will be an A.

8. Elton John – Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

“Back to the howling old owl in the woods
Hunting the horny back toad
Oh I’ve finally decided my future lies
Beyond the yellow brick road”

Goodbye Yellow Brick Roadwas released as the second single from John’s seventh studio album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973). It peaked at No.2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and became one of John’s biggest hits.

The soft rock song gets a feel-good melody. It seems that it talks about the values of wealth, fame and growth. I can feel that the songwriter itches for a simple life. It enlightens me at every time I hear it.

9. Elton John – Crocodile Rock

“Well Crocodile Rocking is something shocking
When your feet just can’t keep still
I never knew me a better time and I guess I never will
Oh, Lawdy mama those Friday nights”

Crocodile Rock is from John’s sixth studio album Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player (1973). The song topped the US Billboard Hot 100 and many other charts in different countries. Besides, the song was certified Platinum by RIAA.

The song has a lively tune, easy and fun. I think it’s about dancing, friends. Every time it drifts in my ears, then I just can’t keep still. So, why not pull on your headphone and dance?

10. Elton John – Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting

“Don’t give us none of your aggravation
We had it with your discipline
Saturday night’s alright for fighting
Get a little action in”

Saturday Night’s Alright for Fightingis the lead single from John’s seventh studio album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973). It peaked at No.12 on the US Billboard Hot 100 while reached No.7 on the charts of John’s homeland. And it has been covered by many singers.

This rock and roll song really rocks. The vibe is just on fire with great energy. It’s not a typical Elton John thing, but I just can’t help playing it in rotation. And I’m getting so ready to go out on Saturday night.
