“And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in”

It overwhelmed charts in several countries and was certified Diamond by RIAA. Besides, Elton John won the title Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the Grammy Award.

This tribute recalls the memory of Diana. When I listening to the song, I can feel John’s emotion for Diana as a very close friend. And John never performs it in public besides at the funeral. Thus, this song is special.

2. Elton John – Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me

“Don’t let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it’s always someone else I see

Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me was chosen as the first single from John’s studio album Caribou (1974). The song peaked at No.2 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was certified Gold by the RIAA and got nomination of Grammy Awards. Besides, the live version years later with George Michael just topped the Billboard Hot 100.

The song mainly talks about a love story which is really complicated. Just imagine the situation where you were stuck in the middle of nowhere, you can’t make progress while you refuse to go back. What a love dilemma here.

The lyrics of the song are moving. Somehow it causes me to choke up a little bit. The piano melody mixed with John’s voice making the song even more touching. And it just fits the storyline of the film. Really a good stuff, isn’t it?

5. Elton John – Daniel

This dreamy ballad has its own characteristics. When I heard it for the first time, I think this is going to be my new fancy song. Though I’m not sure what the lyrics is talking about, it doesn’t matter, and it just sounds awesome.

7. Elton John – Your Song

“It’s a little bit funny, this feeling inside
I’m not one of those who can easily hide, I

Your Song was released as the lead single from John’s second studio album Elton John (1970). It reached No.8 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was certified Platinum by RIAA. And the song marches into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

This simple yet romantic song sounds just like a conversation. It’s beautiful and I’m stuck in John’s voice, the lyrics and the story. Anyway, if i have to give it a score, that will be an A.

“Back to the howling old owl in the woods
